Simchas Torah Minyan
My email title was "no sermon because of wisdom". The email explained, that because I just got my wisdom teeth out, I would lead services, but giving a speech would be difficult. I thought that would bring a larger crowd, but it was regular. And you guessed it, I gave a sermon. We had 9 men and after searching on the street, laundromat, gym and distillery we were still with 9 men. 9 kids were running around but we can't count them. After speaking at about 11:30, I decided to finish the services, minyanless. Should I go outside to look one more time? What a beautiful day, someone has to be walking by. To teens passing by. "Do you happen to be Jewish?" One says no. The smaller one says yes! Yes! "Wait how old are you?" He answers 12. Let's make a Bar mitzvah (sequel to come). After a week of 9, there's usually a Minyan the next week in when I tell everyone they could've been the 10th. We blessed the new month, musaf, aleinu, and Tehillim. Time for Kiddush. Filled up the cup with wine at 11:55. Mendel runs in. "Mike is here we have a minyan" his voice pierces.
What happens now? I think as I see everyone eyeing the food. "Simchas Torah style Torah reading! Bring your food" I announce. "Make sure everyone eats from the shlissel Challah and becomes rich."
We read the Torah which is the yom kippur portion as a everyone sits with there plate and lechaim. Luckily it's a short Parsha and everyone's excited. We finish a little earlier than usual and are ready to farbreng. It's truly never too late.
Lessons learned:
Moshiach is going to come. It's been a long wait, but he will come out of surprise.
Moshiach will not take a way out wealth. He will show us how to truly appreciate it and use it.
Shavua Tov!
